Mohawk to be home to Volleyball Canada’s newest Centre of Excellence Reply

Artists concept of athletics and recreation centreMohawk College’s new Athletics & Recreation Centre will be home to Volleyball Canada’s newest Centre of Excellence starting this September.

The VCCE program is designed specifically to prepare high performance athletes who are serious about the sport of volleyball and who are looking to move on to next level. The program focuses on individual athlete skill development and is described by Volleyball Canada as the ideal complement to the high school and club system for athletes.

“We are excited that our new facility will open up opportunities to partner with organizations at the provincial and national levels,” said Michelle Ball, Mohawk’s Director, Student Engagement and Athletics. “This relationship gives Mohawk College a great chance to showcase our programs and facilities.”

The program will be offered from September-­‐December at the College’s new Athletics and Recreation Centre, which opens this September.

Apps for Health 2013 at Mohawk College

Mohawk’s 3rd annual Apps for Health Conference is underway at the College’s Fennell Campus today. The conference brings health care and industry professionals together with students and educators to explore the frontiers of health, technology and education.
This year’s conference welcomes more than 350 participants and focuses on the latest advances in eHealth, mHealth and mLearning.

Mohawk’s sustainable environment specialist Alan Griffiths and Ron McLester, manager of Aboriginal Education and Student Services will be speaking at the inaugural event to be held at The Pheasant Plucker (20 Augusta St.) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m tonight. Governor’s Blvd has been temporarily closed due to construction at the Fennell Campus.

Governor’s Boulevard Road Closure

Starting today Wednesday, May 15, there is no through-access between the Fennell Avenue and West 5th entrances to Mohawk’s Fennell Campus. The College is temporarily closing Governor’s Boulevard due to on-campus construction and renovations.

  • Access to preferred lots on the east side of the campus will continue from West 5th.
  • Delivery vehicles must also enter the campus from West 5th.
  • Special Access will be provided for service, emergency and waste management vehicles.
  • Access to general parking lots on west side of the campus will be from Fennell Avenue and will be guided by temporary signage.

Signage has been installed by contractors to direct vehicles to their proper locations.

Accommodations will be made for Convocation guests, with ceremonies taking place June 11-14.
